Anthropocene

New inhabitants of the “Empty Spain”
I noticed a black redstart nest in an abandoned pipeline in a rural village in central Spain. Barely anyone lives here, so wildlife has taken over much of our infrastructure.

Roadkill – Fox
We invaded their territory, fragmented it with our highways and cities. Every year, millions of wildlife die of vehicle collision, an invisible barrier that wildlife are struggling to adapt to.

The descent of batman…
Abandoned buildings are sometimes ideal roosting sites for bats, such as this one next to an old mine, a greater horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum) found its home here.

Collision course
This image was captured beneath an apartment building, where a pigeon had fatally collided with a window. Although the bird was no longer there when I arrived, the ghostly imprint left by its feathers remained, serving as a haunting reminder of the many challenges wildlife faces in our urban environments.
